Yam Porridge

Yam is an excellent energy food, rich in carbohydrate and is a staple food in most parts in Nigeria It can be eaten boiled, pounded,fried or roasted but it’s sumptuous as porridge

  • 1 Yam tuber, medium sized
  • 2 Seasoning cubes
  • 2 c Stock
  • 500 g Beef or Chicken
  • 400 g Dried or Smoked Fish
  • 1 c Palm Oil
  • 1 large onion bulb, chopped
  • Chilli Pepper to taste
  • Pumpkin Leaves, as desired(optional)
  • 1 c Crayfish, ground
  • Salt to taste


  1. Peel the yam and wash properly
  2. Season the meat and cook till it soft
  3. Fry or grill the meat if necessary
  4. With the stock, cook the yam adding salt, palm oil,seasoning, pepper and crayfish
  5. Add the dried or smoked fish
  6. When the yam is soft,mash a couple to aid in thickening
  7. Taste for salt, add the vegetable and cook for another 5minutes
  8. Serve
