Ogbono Soup

Ogbono soup is a delicious draw soup enjoyed by many tribes in Nigeria. It is also called Ogbolo and is sometimes complimented with leafy vegetables.

  • 1 kg Meat
  • 1 Onion bulb, chopped
  • 1 c Palm oil
  • 2 Seasoning cubes
  • 8 Chilli Pepper to taste
  • 2 c shelled perewinkle
  • 1 c Crayfish, ground
  • 200 g Kpomo, softened
  • 400 g Stockfish
  • 400 g Dried fish
  • 1 c Ogbono, ground
  • 1 c Pumpkin leaves or Bitterleaf, nicely chopped
  • 3 c Meat stock
  • Salt to taste


  1. Wash all the ingredients properly
  2. Season and boil the meat to obtain the stock
  3. When the meat is almost soft, add the stockfish and kpomo
  4. In a different pot, boil your periwinkle in salt water and wash properly
  5. Add about 6cups of water when the stockfish, meat and kpomo are soft
  6. Bring to a boil
  7. Add the ogbono, perewinkle and palm oil and cook for about 5mins
  8. Add the chopped pumpkin leaves or bitterleaf, crayfish and seasoning cubes
  9. Boil for another 3 mins and add salt to taste
